SlidesIQ - Custom Interactive Navbar Development
1. Client Goal / Project Overview
SlidesIQ is a presentation design agency with a strong visual identity and a high-quality website already in place. However, the template they used did not include the advanced navigation system they needed.
When the client contacted me, their goal was clear:
Add a fully custom, interactive dropdown navbar to improve navigation
Allow users to hover over menu items and instantly see related visuals
Improve user experience without breaking the existing template
Ensure the navbar matched the premium, modern aesthetic of their brand
I was hired specifically because the feature they wanted required custom creation, not something the template could handle.
2. Challenges & Process
a. Template Limitations
The original template included a basic navbar, but no dropdown functionality, no hover states, and no interactive elements.
Because the client needed a dynamic dropdown with images and hover effects, I had to build everything from scratch while keeping the existing design intact.
b. Building a Multi-State Interactive Dropdown
The dropdown they envisioned required six different hover states (variants), each one showing:
A unique image
Supporting text or sublinks
Visual feedback when hovering over each option
To make this happen, I designed and connected multiple variant states so that:
Hovering over a link changes the text color
The image beside the links updates instantly
The entire dropdown feels smooth, responsive, and visually synchronized
This required complex linking between states to ensure seamless transitions with no glitching.
c. Maintaining Visual Consistency With a Beautiful Existing Design
SlidesIQ’s website is visually stunning, bold, clean, elegant.
My challenge was to ensure that the new navbar matched the exact visual energy of the site.
This meant:
Matching color palettes
Aligning typography
Perfect transitions
Smooth hover animations
High-end aesthetics
The navbar needed to feel like it was part of the original template, even though the template never included anything like it.
d. Ensuring Usability and Responsiveness
The dropdown had to work flawlessly across screens and still remain intuitive to use.
I made sure the interactions were lightweight, fast, and accessible.
3. Results & Final Outcome
The custom navbar completely transformed SlidesIQ’s user experience.
Key outcomes:
The website is now much easier to navigate, especially for users exploring multiple services
The interactive hover-image behavior gives the site a distinctive, premium feel
The dropdown blends perfectly with the agency’s aesthetic and enhances their brand identity
The feature remains fully functional and actively used, the website still uses the exact system I built, showing its long-term reliability
The client was satisfied, and the navbar continues to support their user flow without issues
Overall, the project delivered a unique, high-quality UI feature that added real value to the site and improved usability dramatically.
